MOWT Pleads with Service Providers to be Compassionate in light of Transportation Fare Hike

Release date: 3/30/2020

The Ministry of Works and Transport has noted with much concern the recent escalation of transportation fares by some service providers. During these unprecedented times, the free movement of citizens through the use of public transport remains critical to the stability of Trinidad and Tobago. As such, the Ministry is appealing to all transport providers to refrain from charging inflated prices for their service.  Please allow travellers the opportunity to get between work and home without imposing additional fares for their essential transport.

The challenges that we face as a nation must be overcome by collective responsibility and allowing the ideal of “country first” to prevail over all. Now, more than ever, we are learning
the necessity of acting as our brother and sister’s keeper.  Please choose to operate with compassion.

The Ministry of Works and Transport thanks you for your consideration and cooperation during this unique time. We all have a role to play in the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic.
