Tour of Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin- Progress Update

TOUR TO SOLOMON HOCHOY HIGHWAY EXTENSION TO POINT FORTIN

On  Wednesday 11th March, 2015, the Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the Honourable Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, toured ongoing works on the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin Project (SHHPF) in order to update the public and to address queries by the Media on the progress of the Highway.

The SHHPF is a major infrastructural development project which would take motorists from Golconda directly to Point Fortin. It comprises of approximately 47Km of 4-lane highways and 2.5km of 2 lane highways. 

 

PROGRESS UPDATE ON SHHPF PROJECT

·         It was revealed that the SHHEPF Project is 45% completed

 

·         The project is scheduled to be completed by May 2016, within time and within Budget

·         Approximately 1518 employees are employed  and comprises 90% local stakeholders

·         1.5km of gas lines need to be removed in order to facilitate construction works

·         40 oil wells were capped along the route of the SHHEPF

·         37 bridge structures will be built on the new SHHEPF

·         New Technology utilised- A lightweight Styrofoam bridge structure is being utilised above utility lines. This is necessary to facilitate easy construction and dismantling and is very cost effective.

BENEFITS

 It is anticipated that the new developments on the SHHEPF will significantly reduce the traffic congestion experienced on the roadways; as a result, there will be a free flow of traffic and reduced travel times.
