Manzanilla-Mayaro Road Rehabilitation

In November 2014, the Manzanilla/Mayaro Road experienced six failures from Manzanilla Point to Radix Point after days of torrential rain and flash flooding. Such severe weather left this popular/main access route considerably damaged and thousands of residents marooned.

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure immediately responded to the call for help.

On December 24th, MOWI’s PURE Unit provided a temporary access route while work on the permanent structure began. It was anticipated then that remedial works would be completed in one month.

However, in less than two months at a cost of $35million dollars, $22M less than the initial anticipated cost, the Manzanilla Rehabilitation Project was officially re-opened by the Honourable Dr Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, alongside the Members of Parliament for Mayaro, Cumuto /Manzanilla and Sangre Grande, respectively.
