Matelot Bridge Commissioned

VEHICULAR ACCESS TO THE MATELOT SCHOOL AFTER 50 YEARS:

BRIDGE B1/47, PARIA MAIN ROAD MATELOT BRIDGE COMMISSIONED

On Tuesday 9th June, 2015, the Honourable Dr Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Commissioned the Bridge B1/47 Paria Main Road, Matelot also known as the Matelot Bridge.

The Bridges Branch attached to the Highways Division successfully assembled and installed a 120ft Mabey Bailey Bridge. This bridge connects the Matelot River to the Matelot Community School enabling for the first time in history, vehicular access across the river. This project was completed in two phases and involved the bridge reconstruction and road rehabilitation works.

The Ministry’s Highways Division successfully prefabricated and installed the bridge which replaced the previous structure, an Estate Pedestrian Footbridge, that became structurally deficient. The previous structure also created limited access to compound, and limited parking space among other issues.
