TRAFFIC LIGHTS CYCLE LENGTH ADJUSTED ON THE CHURCHILL ROOSEVELT HIGHWAY

The Traffic Management Branch (TMB) of the Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that it has adjusted the cycle length of traffic lights along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway (CRH) which include, but are not limited to the Piarco, Maloney, Mausica and O’Meara intersections, following a retiming exercise at traffic lights over the past week.

The TMB has actively monitored and tuned the lights over the period, and achieved the desired cycle length on Friday 11th August, 2017, based on traffic studies and the use of an advanced micro-analytical tool for evaluation of intersection design in terms of capacity and level of service. The tool also measures performance including delays, queue lengths and stops for vehicles and pedestrians.

The Traffic Management Branch has worked assiduously in tandem with its key internal stakeholders to facilitate the road safety measures required with the widening of the highway, and to accommodate three travel lanes both west and east bound. As a result, retiming of the lights was necessary to remove any excessive time that would have been present when there were two lanes.

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to emphasise that the ultimate goal of this adjustment is to achieve the optimum convenience to the motoring public at all intersections on the highway. The TMB will continue to monitor the traffic lights at these intersections in the event that further adjustments are required.
