Construction of Sea Lots Walkover

Construction of Sea Lots Walkover Printable Version

14 May 2015

The Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the Honourable Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan, wishes to advise the public that the Ministry’s PURE Unit is ready and waiting to begin construction on the much-needed walkover at Sea Lots. Preliminary designs have been drafted and will be finalised upon the selection of a suitable location. It is unfortunate then that, after discussion, over a period of eighteen months, the Port of Spain City Corporation is yet to authorise the use of a portion of land on the Port of Spain Market compound as the location for the northern base of the walkover.

On August 14, 2014 a presentation was done by the Engineers from PURE, for the City Corporation, to demonstrate the plans for construction and a written proposal was submitted a day later, on August 15, 2014. The Engineers also met with the Councillors as well as representatives from the East Port of Spain Development Committee to hear their recommendations.

On November 18, 2014, Minister Rambachan, accompanied by the Director of PURE, Hayden Phillip and a team of Engineers, conducted a site visit at the Market with Deputy Mayor Keron Valentine, where all concurred that it was the most feasible location. Since that meeting the Ministry has been awaiting an official response from the Port of Spain City Corporation, without which construction cannot commence.
