The Mandingo Road 1.2 km Slope Stabilisation Project was undertaken to address a critical issue affecting residents—landslides that posed a serious threat to both homes and safe access along the roadway. Over time, erosion and poor drainage had weakened the slope, increasing the risk of further damage and making daily travel hazardous for the community. Following a site visit by the Honourable Jearlean John, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, the urgency of the situation was clear, prompting immediate action to restore safety and stability to the area.
To resolve these challenges, a comprehensive scope of works was executed, including the installation of a gabion basket wall to stabilise the most affected home, the construction of a 39-metre reinforced concrete retaining wall to secure the slope, and upgrades to the drainage system to improve water run-off. Additionally, full road rehabilitation was completed to ensure reliable and safe access for all users. With these improvements now in place, residents can benefit from enhanced safety, reduced risk of land slippage, and improved connectivity, supporting everyday movement and strengthening the overall resilience of the community.
