Extensive rehabilitation works are advancing at the Lizard River Bridge along the Mayaro–Guayaguayare Road in Guayaguayare, where the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, in collaboration with Shell Trinidad and Tobago is implementing a critical structural upgrade . The project features the application of an innovative carbon-fibre strengthening system to reinforce the bridge’s existing structure—marking the first use of this advanced technology on bridge infrastructure in Trinidad and Tobago. This method allows engineers to enhance the bridge’s structural capacity while minimizing major reconstruction, ensuring the works progress efficiently while maintaining the integrity of the crossing.
Upon completion, the upgraded Bridge will have an increased load capacity and a significantly extended service life, strengthening a key transportation link that supports both the surrounding communities and the country’s energy sector. By modernizing the structure using advanced engineering solutions, the project will ensure safer, more reliable access along this important corridor while improving the long-term resilience of national infrastructure.
