The Western Main Road 7.5 km Carenage, Culvert Rehabilitation Works have been successfully completed, restoring strength, stability, and reliability to one of the region’s most traversed corridors. Previously, deterioration of the culvert system and surrounding infrastructure posed risks to both safe travel and proper water flow, affecting residents, commuters, and businesses.
A comprehensive scope of works included combining critical structural rehabilitation with full roadway restoration. Crews rebuilt the roadway by placing and compacting backfill material, followed by the installation of a granular base course to provide long-term strength and stability. Headwalls were constructed to secure the culvert, while drainage channels were cleaned and desilted to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding. Final pavement reinstatement and surface works have now returned the road to full use
Through timely intervention, these challenges are now fully addressed, ensuring the roadway can safely support daily activity while withstanding future environmental pressures. Throughout the project, the Honourable Jearlean John, Minister of Works and Infrastructure, engaged with technical teams on site, reinforcing a hands-on approach to delivery and oversight.
The result is a safer, smoother, and more resilient roadway—improving connectivity, enhancing daily commutes, and supporting the communities and businesses that depend on this vital route.
