Requirements for Visitors to drive in Trinidad &Tobago
A visitor to Trinidad and Tobago who is seventeen (17) years of age or over may drive on the roads of Trinidad and Tobago subject to the following conditions:
- Where he is in possession of valid Driver’s Permit issued by a country who is signatory to the Geneva Convention, for a period of ninety (90) days with effect from the date of his arrival or until the date of expiry of the Driver’s Permit, whichever occurs first; or
- Where he is in possession of a valid International Driver’s Permit issued elsewhere than in Trinidad and Tobago for the period specified thereon, or where no such period is specified, for a period of one (1) year from the date of issue.
- Where he is the holder of a valid driver’s permit referred to in paragraph (a), he shall only be entitled to drive in Trinidad and Tobago a motor vehicle of the class for which he is authorised to drive.
- Where he is the holder of valid driver’s permit referred to in paragraph (a) and (b), he shall have driver’s permit on his person or in the vehicle together with a valid Certificate of Insurance and only travel document certifying his date of arrival in Trinidad and Tobago for production to any Police Officer or Transport Officer.
