Chacachacare Island Maintenance Works

RELEASE DATE: 17 Apr 2026

Maintenance works were recently carried out on Chacachacare Island, one of the five islands in the Bocas chain off Trinidad’s northwestern coast. Located just off the Chaguaramas peninsula, the island remains an important point for maritime navigation. Crews from the Mechanical Services Division and the Maritime Services Division, supported by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard, undertook critical roadway and lighthouse maintenance activities. Works included clearing overgrown vegetation, removing accumulated garbage and conducting an inspection of the lighthouse.

These efforts play a vital role in preserving safe navigation in the surrounding waters while also improving accessibility for visitors who frequent the island for hiking, diving, and other recreational activities. By restoring and maintaining key infrastructure and clearing environmental hazards, the works help protect both the natural landscape and the overall visitor experience. Continued public cooperation, particularly proper waste disposal, will be essential in keeping Chacachacare clean, safe, and enjoyable for all.
