Renewal of Driver's Permits/Licences - Under Sixty-Five (65)


APPOINTMENTS - DRIVER'S PERMIT RENEWALS UNDER SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS

Senior Citizens wanting to conduct renewals or any driver's licence transactions can make use of the Walk-In Service. 
 

 APPLICATION UNDER SIXTY-FIVE (65) YEARS

Applicants who are under the age of sixty–five and wish to apply for the renewal of a Driver’s Permit for a five (5) year period must produce the following:
 

  1. A completed Application Form No. 4

  2. A valid proof of address (a utility bill no older than three (3) months or a copy of the Lease/Rental Unit Agreement). The accepted forms demonstrating proof of address include a cable bill, home internet bill, electricity bill (T&TEC), OR water bill (WASA). If a customer does not have a utility bill in their name, he or she is required to produce a letter of authorization from the owner and a copy of their national identification card. See the full listing of Proof of Address Requirements 

  3. A current Driver’s Permit

  4. A completed Form No. 12 “Medical test for Driver’s Permit” when the applicant possesses any of the following Classes: 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7

  5. A Taxi Driver’s Badge and License – (if applicable)

The cost of renewal of a Driver’s Permit for five (5) years is $500.00 (Note 60 Years and over no fees attached to renewal).

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR PERSONS RENEWING THEIR DRIVER'S PERMIT BETWEEN THE AGES OF 60-65

The Licensing Division has implemented the following provisions for driving permit holders who are within five (5) years of attaining the age of sixty-five (65):

  • There is no cost for the renewal of a driver’s permit, where the applicant is 60 years and over. 

  • Permit holders who have not yet attained the age of sixty-two (62) years shall renew their permit for four (4) years.  

  • Permit holders who have not yet attained the age of sixty-three (63) years shall renew their permit for three (3) years. 

  • Permit holders who have not yet attained the age of sixty-four (64) years shall renew their permit for two (2) years. 

  • Permit holders who have yet attained the age of sixty-five (65) years shall renew their permit for one (1) year.
     

FEE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A DRIVER'S PERMIT

  • If a Driver’s Permit has expired less than six (6) months, a fee of $500.00 is applicable.
  • If a Driver’s Permit has expired for a period of more than six (6) months but less than three (3) years, a fee of $875.00 is applicable.
  • If a Driver’s Permit has expired for a period of more than three (3) years but less than five (5) years, a fee of $1,750.00 is applicable.
  •  If a permit has expired for a period of more than five (5) years, then the applicant is required to re-sit the driving and regulations test.
  • An applicant is exempted from fees stipulated at (a) & (b) if he/she can show proof of being out of the country during the period.
 

RENEWAL OF DRIVER'S PERMITS VALID FOR TEN (10) YEARS

  • Applicants who are under the age of fifty-six (56) and wish to apply for the renewal of a Driver’s Permit for a ten (10) year period must produce the following documents: 

  • A completed Form No. 4.
  • A valid proof of address (utility bill or a copy of the Lease/Rental Unit Agreement). The accepted forms demonstrating proof of address include a cable bill, home internet bill, electricity bill (T&TEC), OR water bill (WASA). If a customer does not have a utility bill in their name, he or she is required to produce a letter of authorization from the owner and a copy of their national identification.
  •  A Current Driver’s Permit.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
  • Accordingly, persons wishing to renew their Driver’s Permits that had expired in accordance with the above paragraph will be renewed in accordance with section (61) (A) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act or amended by Act No. 5 of 2010 for a period of five (5) years.
  • However, this does not apply to an applicant whose permit has expired for over five (5) years and is required to be retested, that person has the option to renew for either five (5) or ten (10) years.
  • A Completed Form No. 12 – “Medical Test for a Driver’s Permit” when the applicant possesses any of the following Classes: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 or Class 3 and
  •  Taxi Driver’s Badge and License- if applicable.
  • The cost of renewal of a Driver’s Permit for ten (10) years is $1,000.00.
