REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER A NEW MOTOR VEHICLE
In order to register a vehicle, the owner or applicant must be at least seventeen (17) years of age
The owner or agent is also required to present the following:
* A Pro Forma Invoice (Issued by the Motor Car firm)
* Completed Motor Vehicle Tax Form (issued by the motor car firm)
* Completed Registration Form No. 6
* Certificate of Insurance
* Payment of weighbridge fee:
- Vehicle is weighed and inspected
- Registration is approved once it complies with the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act Chapter 48:50 and Motor Vehicle Insurance Third Party Rick Chapter 48:51
- A registration number will be issued once the Motor Vehicle Tax and associated fees are paid
* Associated fees:
- Registration Fee -$100.00
- Motor Vehicle Tax is calculated- To be paid before registration
- Weighbridge Fee- $20.00
REQUIREMENTS TO REGISTER A FOREIGN USED VEHICLE
In order to register a Foreign Used Vehicle, the applicant must produce the following documents:
* Customs and Excise Division (CED) Official Receipt
* C82 Form
* Assessment Notice
* Record of Payment of Motor Vehicle Tax
* Bill of Lading (BL)
* Commercial Invoice
* CARICOM Invoice
* Cancellation Certificate
* English Translation
* Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards Inspection Certificate
* Ministry of Trade and Industry Trade Import Licence
* Completed Registration Form
* Driver’s Permit
* Identification Card or Passport (Accompanied by Utility bill as Proof of Address)
* Valid Vehicle Insurance
* Fee- $120.00
REQUIREMENTS TO CHANGE THE REGISTRATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE VEHICLE RECLASSIFICATION
The steps to change the registration of a motor vehicle are as follows:
The owner of a hired car, goods vehicle or rented car who wishes to change its registration, must abide by the following steps:
* The motor vehicle must be licenced for the current year in the original class (Inspection certificate for the current period).
* Approval for the change must be sought from the Commissioner of Inland Revenue in writing if the vehicle is less than five (5) years and be accompanied by a certified copy of registration which should not be more than three (3) years old (except for rented cars)
* The vehicle must be presented to the Transport Division for inspection and the following documents must be produced:
- Purchase tax receipt from the Inland Revenue Department (except for rented cars)
- Form of approval from the Inland Revenue Department (except for rented cars)
- Certified Copy of Registration
- Completed Registration Form No. 6
- Completed Notification of Change Form
- Valid Certificate of Insurance
- Valid Driver’s Permit
- Birthpaper
- Valid ID Card or Passport (accompanied by a utility bill with proof of address)
- Fee - 135.00
NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE - ENGINE
It is mandatory for individuals to report and update changes to their driver’s permit profile/record by visiting the Licensing Offices across Trinidad and Tobago. The following must be presented in order to update one’s record:
* National identification card, driver’s permit, birth paper and or passport
* Completed Form No. 4 - Notification of Change
* Applicants must provide a proof of address
* Certified Copy (original and copy)
* The receipt for the new engine ( the names identified on the receipt for the new engine must match the registered owner of the vehicle on the Certified Copy
* The vehicle must be brought into the Licensing Office compound to be examined)
* Fee - $35.00
