RELEASE DATE: 28 Nov 2025

APT James Becomes First Vessel Serviced on New AMT Goliath
The APT James is officially the first vessel to be serviced on the nation’s new semi-submersible heavy-lift floating dock, the AMT Goliath. Senior officials of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, including Permanent Secretary Ian Ramdahin and Deputy Permanent Secretary Ronald Alfred, visited the National Marine Maintenance Services Company Limited on Friday 21 November, 2025 to witness the scheduled dry-docking of the vessel.

Recently commissioned to expand the country’s ship repair infrastructure, the AMT Goliath is fully equipped for advanced maintenance such as hull repairs, high-pressure washing, blasting, painting, and other critical works. This new maritime infrastructure marks a major step forward in revitalising the domestic ship repair industry, attracting regional and international business, and increasing foreign exchange earnings.

The APT James, one of the fast ferries operating along the inter-island sea bridge, is currently undergoing its 5-year warranty dry-docking and is expected to return to service on December 21, 2025. This not only demonstrates the enhanced capacity of the local marine sector but also ensures greater efficiency, reduced downtime, and improved reliability for the nation’s ferry operations.
