BEST AIRPORT IN THE CARIBBEAN
PIARCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
The Piarco International Airport (POS) has topped the region as the Best Airport in the Caribbean, as declared by the Skytrax World Airport Awards for 2020 to 2021. POS was named the Third Best Airport in the Central American and Caribbean region, edged out by Panama's Tocumen International Airport and Costa Rica's San Jose International Airport, respectively.
POS also copped the top ranking as the Caribbean’s cleanest airport, second to Panama’s Tocumen in the Central America & Caribbean category.
The achievement of the cleanest airport in the Caribbean is especially significant with respect to the prevailing pandemic and the requirements for attaining high standards in hygiene protocols and cleanliness at airports, to mitigate against the risks of the spread of Covid-19.
Under the policy direction of the Ministry of Works and Transport and in collaboration with our key stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Health, Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (“the Authority”) has placed great focus on improving safety systems and using innovation to enhance the customer experience at both the Piarco and ANR Robinson International Airports.
General Manager of the Authority, Mr. Hayden Newton, considers these accomplishments to be the result of the renewed thrust to realise certain strategic objectives. He stated that “these awards prove that our efforts are bearing fruit and giving us a competitive advantage”.
Skytrax World Airport Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the aviation industry. This independent global customer satisfaction survey is considered a benchmark of quality standards for the aviation sector.
