Official Handover of the new Central Block of the Port of Spain General Hospital

RELEASE DATE: 14 Jul 2026

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, under the leadership of the Honourable Jearlean John, officially handed over the new Central Block of the Port of Spain General Hospital Campus to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. The handover included the transfer of the facility’s keys and the Operations and Maintenance Manuals, marking the successful completion of a significant national infrastructure project and the beginning of its transition to operational readiness.

This milestone represents a major investment in Trinidad and Tobago’s public healthcare infrastructure. The modern, state-of-the-art facility has been designed to enhance healthcare delivery, improve patient care, and strengthen the capacity of the nation’s healthcare system.

With the issuance of the Taking-Over Certificate, responsibility for the facility’s security, insurance and maintenance was formally transferred to the Ministry of Health and, by extension, the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA).

The Ministry of Health will now advance preparations for the operationalization of the new Central Block. Once these activities are completed, the facility will be positioned to deliver modern, high-quality healthcare services to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, further strengthening the country's public health infrastructure.
