The Proposed Reform of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Ch. 48:50 on the Use and Enforcement of Window Film (commonly known as Tint) on Motor Vehicles in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise that the public is invited to review a draft Policy Document for the amendment of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50 (MVRT Act) on the use and enforcement of window film, commonly known as “tint or tinting film” on motor vehicles in Trinidad and Tobago.
This policy is the latest initiative in keeping with the Ministry’s commitment to the continued robust development and implementation of modern traffic laws for the promotion of road safety, as well as the regulation of road use and traffic management in Trinidad and Tobago.
In short, the policy proposes to amend the current laws on the use of tint on motor vehicles, provide for exemptions in limited circumstances and to allow law enforcement officers to utilise modern hand-held devices to measure the permissible percentage of any film or material that is applied to the windscreens and windows of motor vehicles. The policy’s proposals seek to ensure that the law is uniformly enforced in a fair and reasonable manner.
Accordingly, the public is invited to review the draft policy document that has been placed on the Ministry’s website (www.mowt.gov.tt) under the section “Draft Tint Policy” for one (1) month and submit their comments anonymously to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
