In the aftermath of continued torrential downpours which occurred across the country this weekend, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport, along with the Minister of Local Government, Senator the Honourable Kazim Hosein, and a technical team of the Ministry of Works and Transport visited Maraval, Santa Cruz and Maracas and conducted preliminary assessments and clean up.
This morning, contractors of the Drainage and Highways Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport were dispatched to Perseverance Road, Haleland Park, Maraval and rendered assistance to the affected communities. The immediate relief provided by the Ministry included washing and clearing debris off the roadway in the area.
Minister Sinanan also, visited Santa Cruz and Maracas where resources were deployed in an immediate attempt to clear landslips and roadways to return affected areas to a state of normalcy.
Maracas Road is now accessible to vehicular traffic as the Ministry's team worked overnight to remove rubble. During the course of this week (24th to 28th July) the Ministry will continue to visit areas that were adversely affected by the torrential rains and provide infrastructural relief.
