Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan Met with Chief Secretary of Tobago House of Assembly

On Friday, April 29, 2022, the Minister of Works and Transport, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan met with Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, the Honourable Farley Augustine. At this high-level meeting, discussions focused on specific projects poised to improve the operations of the Transportation Division and land, sea, and air transportation in Tobago. This meeting formed part of the Minister's tour of the Sister Isle toward advancing the agenda of national transportation and critical infrastructure development.

In meeting with the Chief Secretary, Minister Sinanan expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Tobago House of Assembly to strengthen the operations and existing infrastructure that supports public transportation through the Public Transport Service Corporation. In addition, he gave his commitment to improving the processes and systems for the development of the Licensing Division on the island. The team also spoke on augmenting and expanding Maritime services across Tobago to unlock the current billion-dollar blue economy.

Further to this meeting, Minister Sinanan and his team of Executives visited the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago at Crown Point. High on the agenda were discussions focused on the progress of the new terminal being built at the A.N.R. Robinson International Airport, which, when completed, will offer three times the capacity of the existing facility. The tour also included an inspection of upgrade works at the existing Tobago Terminal, which will support the island's tourism ambitions.

While meeting with the Executive of the Port Authority, the team discussed the five-year developmental plans for Port operations in Tobago. Chairman of the Port Authority, Ret Colonel Lyle Alexander, Mr. Lenin Oliviere, Chief Executive Officer of the Port of Spain Infrastructure Company, and other Port Authority officials were in attendance.

The Ministry of Works and Transport will continue to deliver on its strategic mandate to improve and provide high-quality infrastructure and transportation services for all citizens. Subsequently, it looks forward to the fruition of the projects discussed that will add greater value to the economic vitality of Tobago
