Update on Flood Alleviation Efforts in Bamboo Settlement # 2

Release date: 12/2/2022

The passage of an unexpected weather system which lasted for several days resulted in widespread flooding in several communities across Trinidad, with Bamboo Settlement being one of the more severely affected areas. To provide immediate relief to this community, the Ministry’s Drainage Division conducted an initial assessment of the situation, which informed the way forward for flood alleviation efforts for the Bamboo #2 area.

As a matter of urgency, two (2) mobile pumps, were utilized at Hosein Circular Road to extract excess water from the community. To date, the water levels in this area have significantly receded. The mobile pumps have now been relocated to the stationary Pump House at Bamboo #2, and will strengthen the Ministry’s existing flood relief efforts for the area as they operate simultaneously. Additionally, as water levels in the Guayabal River continue to decrease, the Drainage Division has operationalized the sluice gate located at Mohan Street, Bamboo Settlement #2 (gates have been open) to assist with the runoff of the flood water. 02nd December 2022 MEDIA RELEASE Update on Flood Alleviation Efforts in Bamboo Settlement # 2

The Ministry of Works and Transport continues to monitor flood relief efforts in the various Districts, as it executes similar flood alleviation measures throughout Trinidad to restore normalcy to all affected communities.
