The National Infrastructure Development Company Limited Ltd (NIDCO) in partnership with the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) wishes to advise the general public that there will be a change in traffic flow of the Southern Main Road in the vicinity of the Curepe Intersection (Churchill Roosevelt Highway /Southern Main Road (CRH/SMR) Intersection) which will be in effect from June 24th, 2019 for an expected duration of six (6) months.
The public is advised that the existing CRH/SMR Intersection will be shifted approximately 150m east. This will result in the following changes in the movement of traffic (see maps for ease of reference):
FROM CHURCHILL ROOSEVELT HIGHWAY - WEST
· Motorists travelling east on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway can continue in their respective direction through the new intersection.
· Motorists travelling east on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway who wish to proceed north on to the Southern Main Road can continue in their usual direction.
· Motorists travelling east on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway who wish to proceed South to the Southern Main Road shall merge right on to the turning lane at the newly signalized intersection and proceed south as directed by the traffic signals to the Southern Main Road via Ramp G.
FROM CHURCHILL ROOSEVELT HIGHWAY - EAST
· Motorists travelling west on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway can continue in their respective direction through the new intersection.
· Motorists travelling west on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway who wish to proceed south on to the Southern Main Road will take the new deceleration lane and proceed south on to the Southern Main Road via Ramp G.
· Motorists travelling west of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway wishing to turn north (to Curepe) shall merge right on to the turning lane at the newly signalized intersection and proceed north on to Ramp D as directed by the traffic signal
FROM SOUTHERN MAIN ROAD - SOUTH
· There is no change to Motorists travelling north on Southern Main Road (South) who wish to proceed west on to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway. They will continue north along the Southern Main Road to access the Churchill Roosevelt Highway westbound lane
· Motorists travelling north on Southern Main Road wishing to proceed east or north across the CRH/SMR intersection will turn right onto the access Ramp G and proceed north to the newly signalized intersection. Motorists will then continue north or turn east as directed by the traffic signal.
FROM SOUTHERN MAIN ROAD - NORTH
· Motorists travelling south on Southern Main Road (North) from Curepe who wish to proceed east on to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway shall turn left on to Ramp D and proceed east along Ramp D to access the Churchill Roosevelt Highway eastbound.
· Motorists travelling south on the Southern Main Road (North) from Curepe who wish to proceed south on to the Southern Main Road shall turn left on to Ramp D, proceed to the newly signalized intersection and continue south as directed by the traffic signal.
· Motorists travelling south on the Southern Main Road (North) from Curepe who wish to proceed west on to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway shall turn left on to Ramp D, proceed to the newly signalized intersection and turn right as directed by the traffic signal to access the Churchill Roosevelt Highway westbound.
ACCESS TO VALSAYN BRANCH ROAD/VALSAYN GARDENS/ KFC
· There is no change for Motorist access to Valsayn Branch Road/KFC from the eastbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway. Traffic will exit at the existing access ramp for the Southern Main Road.
· Motorists travelling north along Southern Main Road (South) or west on to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway who wish to access the Valsayn Branch Road/KFC must travel west along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and make a U-turn at the Prince Charles Intersection and proceed east to Southern Main Road (North).
· Motorists travelling south along Southern Main Road (North) from Curepe will have to proceed along Ramp D to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway to the newly signalized intersection and turn right as directed by the traffic signal and continue as above to make the U-turn at Prince Charles Intersection.
· All Motorists exiting the Valsayn Branch Road must proceed north. Those who wish to proceed to the Curepe will continue north along Southern Main Road. Those who wish to proceed to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway or the Southern Main Road (South) will turn right on to Ramp D and proceed to the new signalized intersection and continue as directed by the traffic signal.
Motorists are also advised to comply with following:
· proceed with caution
· observe all directional signage and barriers provided on the approaches to the intersection
· comply with instructions issued by police officers/traffic wardens to facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic
All precautions are being taken by the MOWT, NIDCO and its Contractor to guarantee proper Health, Safety and Environmental Standards are maintained. We thank you for your continued cooperation and regret any inconvenience caused.
