Duties & Responsibilities: |
Distinguishing Features of Work:
An employee in this class is responsible for organising, planning and directing all road construction and maintenance works in a Division. Work includes responsibility for the sound and economical expenditure of allocated funds and the review and supervision of the activities of large and diversified groups of workers engaged in roadway construction and maintenance works. General supervision is received is received from a superior who reviews work through inspections, reports and meetings.
Examples of Work:
- Organises, plans and directs all road construction and maintenance activities in a Division.
- Attends to trade union matters pertaining to wages and conditions of service of subordinate workers.
- Attends to all correspondence pertaining to the Division.
- Prepares annual estimate of expenditure and exercises control of all expenditure of the Division.
- Arranges for the in-service training of subordinate staff.
- Investigates and reports on complaints and irregularities.
- Renders overall supervision over large groups of skilled and unskilled workers engaged in road construction and maintenance works.
- Performs related work as may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: |
- Extensive knowledge of road construction and maintenance works.
- Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and construction of roads.
- Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations and instructions.
- Some knowledge of the principles and practices of Public Administration.
- Ability to organise, plan and direct road construction and maintenance activities in a Division.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.

Minimum Experience & Training |
Extensive experience in road construction and maintenance works including considerable experience in a supervisory capacity and training as evidenced by a National Certificate in the relevant field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
