Duties & Responsibilities: |
Kind of Work:
Technical work assisting in the collection and analysis of traffic data and in the development of traffic management projects.
Distinguishing Features of Work:
An employee in this class performs a variety of simple technical tasks in connection with the collection and analyses of traffic data, monitoring of traffic flows and traffic control devices and the preparation and implementation of remedial measures to relieve accident blackspots and improve traffic circulation. Duties may also include the supervision of a small group of clerical workers. Work is performed under the general direction of a technical superior who reviews work through discussions and reports for completeness and accuracy.
Examples of Work:
- Assists and participates in field surveys of vehicular and pedestrian traffic and traffic control devices.
- Receives, checks and does simple analysis of traffic survey data.
- Collects, decodes and tabulates data from automatic traffic recording machines.
- Collects and does preliminary analysis of accident statistics.
- Assists in the inspection of the works required for traffic management measures and remedial measures for accident blackspots.
- Performs related work as may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: |
- Some knowledge of the principles of traffic engineering and transportation planning.
- Some knowledge of the instruments and methods utilised in conducting traffic surveys.
- Some knowledge of basic mathematical methods.
- Some knowledge of the sources of traffic data and methods of securing such information.
- Ability to apply the theory and principles of traffic engineering and transportation planning to the performance of simple technical tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the public.

Minimum Experience & Training |
Some technical experience in carrying out basic traffic surveys and training as evidenced by the General Certificate of Education, Ordinary Level with passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
