On Thursday 13th October 2022, Senator the Honourable Rohan Sinanan, Minister of Works and Transport accompanied by a technical team from the Ministry of Works and Transport witnessed a key milestone with the completion of Package 3A of the La Brea Interchange Bridge. A major concrete pour for the Interchange bridge deck commenced at 7:00 pm and was completed at 8:00 am on Friday 14th October 2022.
An estimated 220M³ of concrete was installed, representing another significant achievement in the completion of the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin (SHHEPF) Project. The La Brea Interchange Bridge, an extensive structure, is 47 metres long and is the longest single-spanning bridge of the SHHEPF project. Once completed as part of the La Brea Interchange, the entire Interchange will serve as the main connector to the La Brea community and the La Brea Industrial Estate.
Construction of the SHHEPF Project is currently being undertaken via twelve (12) work packages using the services of local contractors. It is anticipated that upon completion, the project will significantly improve the efficiency of the road network in the south-western area by providing road access and connectivity to Debe, Fyzabad, Mon Desir, La Brea and Point Fortin, as well as San Fernando, Gulf City and La Romain.
The overall benefits of the Project include:
Reduction in traffic congestion
Increased capacity on the Highway
Improved access to and from adjacent communities
Improved pedestrian accessibility and safety
Reduce travel time
The ongoing works on the Solomon Hochoy Highway Extension to Point Fortin Project demonstrate the Ministry of Works and Transport’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure for the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago.
