What We Do
The Highways Division is currently responsible for 2,050 kilometres of the 9,592 kilometres or 21% of roads throughout Trinidad. This is commonly referred to as the ‘Highways Division Road Network’. The Division also has responsibility for 1,200 bridges and 2,500 culverts which populate the portion of the road network under its purview.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HIGHWAYS DIVISION ENTAIL THE FOLLOWING:
* Maintenance of the road network
* Road and bridge planning
* Road and bridge designs
* Road and bridge construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation
* Landslips repairs
* Production of asphaltic hot mix and concrete
* Pre-testing of materials used for road works
* Management and control of traffic on the road network
* Highway beautification
DEVELOPMENT OF A HIGHWAY INFORMATION SYSTEM (HIS)
The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, through the Highways Division, has proposed the development of a Highway Information System (HIS) in Trinidad, to assist in the planning, design, construction, management and preservation of the highway network. The Highway Division is working assiduously on developing this system. HIGHWAYS DIVISION BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAMME
The Highways Beautification Programme (HBP) facilitates working partnerships with Corporate Trinidad and Tobago and the Highways Division. It works to develop and enhance the beauty of the nation’s roadways through creative landscaping, advertising and maintenance. Companies interested in participating in the HBP and collaborating with the Highways Division MUST obtain a License Agreement from the Ministry of Works and Transport by adhering to these Guidelines.
