Extension of the Tint Moratorium

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that the moratorium on the operationalization of the new Windscreen and Window Tint Regulations, 2020 has been further extended to December 31, 2021.

Continued Closure of the Licensing Division until July 4th 2021

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that due to the extension of the Public Health Regulations and Restrictions recently announced by the Honourable Prime Minister, ALL Licensing Offices nationwide will be closed until July 4th 2021.

Continued Payment of Fixed Penalty Notices (Traffic Tickets)

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to remind the general public that payment of Fixed Penalty Notices (traffic tickets) issued after May 26th, 2020 can be made at any of the twelve (12) authorised Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation (TTPOST) locations nationwide. All authorised TTPOST locations are operational and will continue to accept payment of Fixed Penalty Notices between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM, Monday to Friday.

Temporary Closure of all Licensing Offices

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that ALL Licensing Offices nationwide will be closed until May 23rd 2021.

Extension on The Vehicle Transfers and The Validity Of Certain Documents Issued By The Licensing Division

(1) The validity of the Driver’s permits, taxi driver licences, badges, certificates or other documents issued by the Licensing Division which would otherwise have been due to expire on or before September 30, 2021 are now deemed to be valid up to October 01, 2021; and
 
(2) The time-frame for the completion of any transfer of vehicle registration – that is, any transfer of vehicle registration required to be completed on or before September 30, 2021 may be completed on or before October 01, 2021.

Extension of the Three Month Moratorium on the Enforcement of the New Window and Windscreen Tint Regulations

Given the far-reaching impact of this initiative and concerted efforts by the general public to become compliant with the new regulations, the Ministry of Works and Transport has taken a decision to extend the moratorium on the enforcement of the new Windscreen and Window Tint Regulations, 2020 by an additional period of three months, commencing from March 07th 2021 and expiring on June 06th 2021.

Extension of Time for the Completion of Vehicle Registration Transfers and Validity of Certain Documents issued by the Licensing Division

These amendments to the MVRTA took effect on 22nd December, 2020 and provide for a further extension of time as follows:

(1) any transfer of vehicle registration required to be completed on or before 31st December, 2020 may be completed on or before 31st March, 2021; and

(2) the validity of driver’s permits, taxi driver licences, badges, certificates or other documents issued by the Licensing Division which expired on or before 31st December 2020 shall be deemed valid until 31st March, 2021.

The MOWT Introduces a Three Month Moratorium on the Enforcement of the new Regulations for Vehicle Window Tint

The Ministry wishes to advise the general public that effective December 07, 2020, a three (3) month moratorium was granted to allow citizens sufficient time to ensure that their motor vehicle is in accordance with the new Regulations.

No New Appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to inform the general public that all new appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office have been placed on hold until Tuesday 13th October, 2020. New appointments at the San Fernando Licensing Office will resume on Wednesday October 14, 2020.

Extension of the Validity of Expired Driver's Permits

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise members of the public of recent amendments to sections 19 (7) and 61B (1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 48:50 (MVRTA). The amendments were brought into operation by section 25(a) and (b) of the Miscellaneous Amendments (No. 2) Act, 2020. The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Extension of Time for the Validity of Certain Documents) Order, 2020 signed by the Minister of Works and Transport, the Honourable Rohan Sinanan on the 14th day of September 2020 further extended the validity of drivers permits, taxi driver licences, badges, certificates or other documents issued by the Licensing Division which expired on or before 31st August, 2020 to be deemed valid until 31st December, 2020.
