Policy to introduce Regulations under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chap. 48:50 for Regulating of Driving Schools and Driving Instructors- Virtual Stakeholder Consultation

The Ministry of Works and Transport (“the Ministry”) intends to introduce a new requirement for driving schools and driving instructors to be registered with the Licensing Authority to be able to carry on a business to teach persons to drive or operate a vehicle. As such, the Ministry developed a policy document titled ‘Policy for the Amendment of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chap. 48:50 for the Regulation of Driving Schools and Instructors’ (“the Policy”) in respect of the implementation of this initiative. Closure of the Caroni Licensing Office - August 30th, 2023

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public that due to a utility challenge on the Caroni Licensing compound, the Office will be closed from 10:00 a.m. today, Wednesday 30th August, 2023. Normal hours of operation will resume on Friday 01st September, 2023.

Closure of Caroni Licensing Office

Introduction of the Online Provisional Permit System

With a continued commitment to modernizing and improving service delivery at the Licensing Division, the Ministry of Works and Transport is pleased to introduce the Online Provisional Permit System, the newest addition to our suite of online services. The public is advised that the roll-out of the online application process as the new method to apply for a Provisional Permit will take effect May 01st, 2023.

Double Demerit Points - Not in Effect for Easter Weekend

Utilization of Ato Boldon and Larry Gomes Stadiums For Vehicle Transfers

The Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to thank the general public for utilizing the additional locations (Ato Boldon and Larry Gomes Stadiums) that have been put in place to support vehicle transfer transactions. While many customers have chosen to utilize the Ato Boldon Stadium, the Licensing Division strongly encourages persons to ALSO visit the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, which is fully equipped to conduct vehicle transfers.

Reinstatement of Online Appointment System for Certain Licensing Transactions

In 2020, the Ministry of Works and Transport implemented an online appointment system to facilitate the continuation of licensing transactions during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In paying close attention to the needs and expectations of our customer base, on December 05th 2022, the Ministry heeded the calls of various segments of the population to implement a walk-in service for the following transactions:
